When should you test paddock soil?

This does not however mean you cannot apply a general fertiliser such as a Horse Paddock Fertiliser such as Absolute Paddock High Growth Fertiliser 20-10-10, but this may not optimise your results.

Should I choose Essential or Advanced for my first soil test?

Essential will normally provide a suitable starting point where you want a routine assessment of pH and main nutrients or you had a more in-depth Advanced Paddock Soil Test in the past.

The Advanced Paddock Soil Test may be more appropriate where the paddock already has persistent poor growth, bare areas, increasing weeds, a history of disappointing treatments, or you want to optimise available nutrients to improve sward and horse health.

Will soil testing tell me which grass seed to choose?

Not directly. It helps establish whether soil conditions are suitable for grass establishment. Paddock grass seed choice must also consider soil type, drainage, wear, intended use – such as a paddock grass seed suitable for a hay cut or grazing as well as the needs of the horses or grazing animals.

Can soil testing help with weeds?

It can help identify whether weak grass is connected to pH or nutrient levels.
