Blackout is a water-based dye suitable for everything from small garden ponds to lakes and other enclosed water bodies, creating a natural, reflective surface that enhances the look of the water. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to improve the appearance of your pond or you are managing a fishery, Blackout offers a simple and effective solution.
In addition to improving visual appeal, Blackout provides shading within the water, helping to limit algae and aquatic weed growth by reducing photosynthesis. Made with non-toxic pigments, it is safe for use in fisheries, ornamental ponds, and irrigation waters.

Application Information
When to use
For best results, apply early in the season before algae and aquatic weeds begin to develop.
How to use
- Add the required amount straight into the water; the dye will spread naturally through normal water movement.
- Circulation can be enhanced by keeping water features running, which helps the dye distribute more evenly throughout the water.
- Blackout should be applied near the shoreline at various locations around the lake or pond to achieve the best coverage.
- Reapplications of Blackout will help maintain the desired water colour throughout the season.
- This product should NOT be applied to streams, rivers, outflows or water not completely controlled by the user.
Application rate: 2.5 - 5L/ha of water.
Please note: In smaller ponds, you may need to increase the application rate to achieve the required appearance.

Delivery & Returns
Any applicable delivery charges will be calculated at checkout. Certain products qualify for next working day delivery if ordered before 1pm, excluding bank holidays and the festive season. Please be aware that deliveries to remote areas, including the Highlands and Cornwall, may take longer. Additional charges apply for non-mainland locations — please contact the office for further details, or you can learn more about our delivery options here.
A signature is required upon delivery. If no one is available, you can leave a signed note for the driver requesting the parcel be left in a secure location without a signature. However, please be aware that this is done at your own risk and is subject to the driver's discretion.
For large orders, please be aware that if you require a smaller 7.5 tonne lorry, the maximum weight for pallets is 750kg - otherwise the standard pallet size limit of 1000kg applies.
Please note:
- For deliveries that require a pallet, the pallet/packaging itself is the customer's responsibility and will not be uplifted or taken upon delivery.
- Deliveries are kerb side only.
- It is possible a pallet order can be delivered on a vehicle up to the size of a 26T lorry.
