Professional Lawn Fertiliser & Turf Nutrition

Achieving a stadium-grade finish or a pristine domestic lawn starts beneath the surface. At Amenity Choice, our range of lawn fertilisers is curated to manage soil fertility across diverse landscapes—from ornamental garden lawns and expansive estate grounds to high-traffic commercial turf.

Consistent grass performance relies on a precise turf nutrition strategy. Over time, essential nutrients are depleted through regular mowing (clippings removal), weathering, and natural plant uptake. Without intervention, soil nutrient reserves fail, leading to a loss of sward density, pale coloration, and increased vulnerability to moss and broadleaf weeds.

The Science of NPK in Turf Management

To maintain a healthy rootzone, understanding the NPK ratio is vital. Our formulations are engineered to provide targeted nutrient uptake at every stage of the plant's life cycle:

  • Nitrogen (N): The engine of leaf growth. It provides the essential "green-up" and ensures the lawn can recover quickly from wear and tear.
  • Phosphorus (P): Essential for root development. We recommend high-phosphate "Pre-Seeding" fertilisers for new lawn establishment or renovation projects.
  • Potassium (K): Known as the "conditioner," it regulates water movement and cell wall strength, protecting the turf against drought, frost, and disease.

Beyond the basics, our professional fertilisers often include Micronutrients such as Iron (Fe) for rapid greening and moss control, and Magnesium (Mg) to support the photosynthesis required for deep-rooted health.

Granular vs. Liquid: Choosing Your Delivery System

The choice between granular and liquid applications depends on your specific maintenance goals and equipment.

Granular Fertiliser & Slow-Release Technology

For most managed landscapes, granular fertiliser is the industry standard. These are easy to apply using professional lawn spreaders, ensuring an even distribution that prevents "scorching" or "striping."

  • Conventional Granular Fertilisers: Offer a quick release of nutrients for an immediate response.
  • Slow-Release: Often organic based products that rely on soil biology to release nutrients gradually over time.
  • Controlled-Release: Utilise polymer or sulphur coatings to drip-feed the grass over 3–6 months. This prevents "surge growth," meaning you spend less time mowing and more time enjoying a consistent, thick sward.

Liquid Fertiliser for Rapid Correction

Liquid fertilisers are ideal for professional gardeners who require total control. They are absorbed through both the leaf (foliar) and the root, providing a near-instant boost in colour and vigour. This is the preferred method for "fine-tuning" turf during the height of the playing season or for use as a biostimulant with added seaweed extract.

Seasonal Fertiliser Programmes

A "one-size-fits-all" approach does not work for UK lawns. Your seasonal fertiliser programme must adapt to the weather:

Spring/Summer: Focus on high-nitrogen "Grow" formulations to kickstart the season.

Autumn/Winter: Shift to high-potassium "Toughener" feeds. These strengthen the plant’s defences against cold-weather pathogens like Microdochium (aka Fusarium or Snow Mould).

Renovation: Use balanced fertilisers alongside grass seed, top dressing, and aeration (hollow tining) to revitalise compacted or thinning areas.

Integrated Turf Health

For the best results, fertiliser should be used as part of an integrated approach. This includes regular weed control to remove competition, soil conditioners to improve the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of your soil, and high-quality wetting agents to ensure moisture reaches the roots during dry spells.
